Social Responsibility

Sustainability Pledge

parham waddell believes we all can live luxuriously happy while treading lightly on the planet. This has both practical and moral implications. In all of our business practices, we take social and environmental considerations into account. We started by purchasing renewable electricity through our website host, sustainablewebsites.com.*

Can’t stop there though. Our home and office [will soon] use clean energy [again. We’re working on that after the move.] Not to mention shop transportation and modes of transport we sell, whenever possible. Anything that is recycleable is, and we make every attempt to limit unnecessary waste both in purchases and shipping. All of this is a little difficult, but it makes us nearly carbon neutral and that’s a good thing. We’re always looking for ways to lighten our ecological footprint while providing you the best in fine classic goods.

*Since our hosts ares so smart, we’ll let them tell you about our renewable energy supply….

We’re 100% Wind Powered.

Most electricity comes from coal, natural gas or nuclear powered generation – each of which has harmful impacts on our health and the environment that supports us. Our site host purchases 100% of our power usage equivalent for their servers and office equipment via wind-powered Renewable Energy Certificates. In addition, our private residence, office, and gallery/garage space use renewable energy as well.

Renewable Energy Certificates

Renewable energy certificates (RECs), also known as green certificates, green tags, or tradable renewable certificates, represent the environmental attributes of the power produced from renewable energy projects and are sold separate from commodity electricity (your normal utility bill). Anyone can buy green certificates whether or not they have access to green power through their local utility or a competitive electricity marketer (Sustainable Websites or Native Energy come to mind). And they can purchase green certificates without having to switch electricity suppliers.

By purchasing renewable energy certificates, we’re not only offsetting our own emissions of harmful pollutants and greenhouse gases, we’re participating in a community of responsible businesses and individuals that are choosing to buck the current paradigm. The income from REC’s goes towards either supporting existing wind turbine farms or developing new ones. Even if less than 50% of the population participated, we would be well on our way to independence from imported fossil fuels.

Where’s the Wind?

Our website’s green power is made at the Mountain View Wind facility in San Gorgonio Pass, California. The pass is about 18 miles west of Palm Springs, and is one of the most established wind energy areas in the U.S. The 111-turbine Mountain View Wind Project generates enough energy to serve more than 40,000 homes in California. REC’s are purchased through a partnership with 3Phases Energy Services. Oh, and don’t worry about our flying friends; this wind farm has received all the necessary siting permits.

Offset your Own Electricity.Contact Sustainable Websites to learn how to purchase REC’s to offset electricity usage from your home or office. Prices range from $10/month for an apartment to $20/month for a house. Volume deals for larger businesses are available, as well as marketing help promoting your green power purchase.
